Monterey Blues Festival
I met this friend of a friend awhile back who was from the East Coast...Jersey to be exact. He was a slightly wired kinda guy, yet the West Coast seemed to mellow him out a tad.A very interesting and very talented black man who i enjoyed meeting and getting to know.
He decided to try out as the featured Artist for the M.B.B.F. He worked long and hard to enter his 3 art-works, hoping that one would be chosen. Asked me what i thought, then made a minor change by removing the junk yard dog on the walkway.
After the judges were done, out of all the entries, his was the one they would go with. He was so jazzed about it.
He asked if i would be interested in driving him up with his artwork to sell while there and in doing so i would also be his guest as he would be a V.I.P. there and would have all the perks that come with it. I told him definately yes.
So we loaded up my truck and off we went! The weather was perfect as was the long scenic drive and all was well with the world! When we got there we signed in and picked up the key to our room and what a room it was! Later that night we went into town to a local lil jazz bar to meet the other artist and musicans. As i'm sitting there i look around and noticed i was the only "light skinned" person there. (the room was pretty dark at first)
This took a little ajusting at first but then i was just being myself and going with the flow of things. I thought it was pretty cool, being in the presence of such "colorful" talent. I noticed (to my own personal humor) that on occassion i would get a hi-brow sideways look by some. I laughed inside thinking what they might be saying to themselves.
I was now feeling more comfortable in their company. This was the first time and it was good for me, better yet, it was great! I needed this i thought to myself. To break some barriers and to socialize on a completely different level. All in all we had a great time, i made some friends and it was a blast!
This was the featured poster.
